Creative Listening and Podcast Production

Catalog description

This is a class about creative listening and sonic storytelling. Readings in sound studies and acoustic ecology will examine the social, environmental, and aesthetic aspects of sound. Through methods like reduced listening and soundwalking, you will develop your ear and your appreciation for the sounds around you. Class activities will teach you to pitch and develop an original podcast, producing a pilot episode as a final project. Zoom visits by successful podcast makers and executives will teach you about the podcast industry and best practices. Prerequisite(s) or Co-requisite(s): MJF 146 , major status (MAC, STC, JRN, FST), or permission of instructor.
