Music and Sound Technologies

Catalog description
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of music and sound technology within its historical and cultural contexts. Topics include the properties of sound, digital audio, electronic and digital instruments, audio engineering, and sound design. Students will develop technical knowledge and skills for music and sound production through both classroom instruction and hands-on projects. Critical discussions will explore the social impact of contemporary and historical systems of performance, recording, and production. Students will reflect on their interactions with music and sound technology and examine its influence on their lives and the broader music community. No prior musical experience is required; students will build a specialized vocabulary throughout the semester and receive additional guidance and musical material as needed. IIA. PA-3A.
