Have you ever wondered how social policies are created and how they influence social welfare programs? Do you know who represents you in local, state and national governments? In this course, you will learn about historical and current structures of social policies and services, and how policy impacts social programs. Using active and collaborative learning strategies, you will evaluate the values and decision-making processes that go into policy development and how they differentially affect people based on historical, social, racial, cultural, economic, organizational, environmental, and global factors. Special attention will be given to disenfranchised, oppressed, and impoverished populations.
