Catalog description

Introduces the principles and technologies of industrial communication and networking systems used in manufacturing, automation, and control environments. Topics include industrial network architectures, fieldbus and industrial Ethernet protocols (e.g., Modbus, PROFIBUS, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT), wireless industrial communication, network security, and the role of Industrial IoT (IIoT) in smart manufacturing. Emphasis is placed on network design, implementation, troubleshooting, and cybersecurity considerations in industrial settings. Laboratory exercises provide hands-on experience with industrial communication systems and diagnostic tools. Prerequisite: ENT 296 .
