Catalog description

Drawing from interdisciplinary scholarship, queries notions of publics and how counterpublics emerge in response to dominant publics and cultural hegemony. Considers methodologies for analyzing and critiquing the circulating discourses of the public sphere--as well as how to intervene in such discourses and how to build intersectional coalitions for social change. Examines community engagement and coalition building, specifically how communities collaborate across differences to address complex problems for social change, and explores the role of rhetoric and professional writing in supporting this engagement.
