Research Literacy and Ethics

Catalog description
This course introduces students to the foundations of educational research, emphasizing literacy, ethics, and the role of research in informing policy, pedagogy, and leadership. Students explore questions of knowledge construction—who creates knowledge and what counts as knowledge—and learn to distinguish between empirical and conceptual studies. The course emphasizes researcher positionality, critical reading, mastery of key terminology, and strategies for finding, evaluating, and synthesizing research. Students also examine ethical responsibilities in practitioner inquiry and complete formal training in human subjects’ research. Prerequisite: admission to EDL doctoral program (LCC); or admission to the Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership Program, and graduate standing.
