Statics and Mechanics of Materials

Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to the fundamentals of the mechanics of materials for Bioengineering and Chemical Engineering students. The course stresses statics and mechanics of deformable media, and material behavior. Advanced topics in material behavior and stability that are relevant to bio/chem engineering will be introduced and related to the course materials. The course takes an integrated approach to problem formulation in terms of kinematics, constitutive behavior, equilibrium, and compatibility. Prerequisites: ( MTH 251 or MTH 249 ) and ( PHY 181 or PHY 191).
