Forbidden Romance in Modern Chinese Culture

Catalog description

This course introduces undergraduate students to “forbidden romance” in modern China through surveying literary works and films that describe illicit love, desire, and sexuality in China during the 20th and 21st centuries. The course analyzes various crucial issues such as gender, class, ethnicity, and ideology and it provides students with a global consciousness to better understand the multi-faceted modern world.
