Prerequisite(s): SWKM 5400, SWKM 5425, SWKM 5450, SWKM 5500, SWKM 5575, SWKM 5600, SWKM 5650, SWKM 5675 or SWKM 6400 with a B- or above Corequisite(s): SWKM 6725 This is the first course in the Capstone sequence. This course gives learners the opportunity to integrate and apply foundational social work knowledge and skills such as theories of practice and evidence-based approaches by proposing and then conducting a field-based evaluation or agency resource project. Capstone builds upon the Advanced Integrative Practice perspective by providing learners the opportunity to assess complex systems, consider alternative interventions, and advocate for an evidence-informed, culturally relevant idea within a field-based setting. Learners are expected to demonstrate the following: integrate foundational concepts and theoretical frameworks, conduct critical analyses and effective utilization of published research, and apply self-reflexivity and anti-oppressive principles. During the course, learners will develop the knowledge and skills to prepare an agency resource, or program evaluation proposal aimed to improve practice, policy, and/or programming. At the end of this course, the learner will seek and obtain approval for their Capstone project.
