Through integrating anti-oppressive practice, trauma-informed care, and related critical practices, this course will provide social work students with foundational generalist practice skills for eliciting the change process with the wondrous constellation of individuals and families. Building upon self-knowledge developed during previous courses, learners will identify how social work practice is shaped by their identities, experiences, and biases and how to examine, challenge, and reimagine their approach. Learners will integrate social-justice informed practice with traditional social work approaches. To develop and practice these skills, learners will engage in a semester long project involving self-reflection, self-observation, peer support, supervisory feedback, and practical clinical writing.
