Groups are the essential system for understanding human behavior in social contexts. All human society is founded upon groups (especially when families are viewed as specialized groups) and as such are an essential part of social justice practice. Groups have always been a central force for collective action for change in clinical and community contexts. Central constructs of group processes including group development, dynamics, and roles are considered. Learners will develop knowledge and skills as a generalist social worker in inter-professional practice and as a facilitator of groups in clinical, community and organizational practice. Learners will be involved in discussion, experiential activities and lectures in order to build knowledge, values and skills in group work practice.
