Prerequisite(s): SLHS 5310 with a B- or above Prerequisite(s) or Corequisite(s): SLHS 5320 with a B- or above Students examine counseling theories and clinical approaches to support behavior change in individuals with communication disorders/differences. Common factors that influence therapeutic relationships are explored with a focus on developing students’ counseling competencies. The emotional reactions to communication disorders/differences among diverse populations are considered along with the speech-language pathologist’s role in supporting clients/families as well as their own well-being. Note: Student must achieve a B- or better for this course to count towards the MS SLP.
