Metropolitan State University of Denver · 4 credits · UGRD

Prerequisite(s) and/or Corequisite(s): ENG 1020 or ENG 1021 with a grade of C- or better or permission of the instructor In this course students study film and other visual media as culture, both in its on-screen forms and in the form of written critique. The emphasis is on learning the language of film and other visual media criticism so that students can produce critical writing of their own, supported by research. Students discuss and describe historical, socioeconomic, political, racial, multicultural, international, and gender perspectives on film and visual media, and apply them in critical analysis. The films and other media examples used in the course represent diverse perspectives, nationalities, cultures, and ethnicities; those films not from Anglophone cultures will be screened with English subtitles.
