What is Latin America? It has been portrayed as both magical and gritty, folkloric and modern - a tropical paradise and a violent metropolis. In this course we address these often contradictory representations of Latin America by way of its rich film production over the past three decades. We examine topics including colonialism and neocolonialism, tradition and modernity, and gender and sexuality.
