Advanced Couple and Family Therapy

Catalog description

This course will provide Masters’ students in Marriage and Family Therapy with an in-depth examination of contemporary theories and practices in Couples and Family Therapy. The course will delve deeply into four contemporary models, including two modern models and two post-modern models, including Intergenerational, Structural, Solution Focused and Narrative. Students will compare and contrast these models as applied to cases. The course will look deeply at the impact of secrecy and privacy on coupes and families and how to work with these. We will examine the state of Couples and Family Therapy in contemporary practice including diagnosis and assessment-based treatment planning. This course builds on knowledge learned in PSYN 605, Contemporary Couples Therapy, and PSYN 657, Contemporary Family Therapy, which are prerequisites for this course.
