Assertive behavior is an integration of non-verbal, verbal, and vocal skills facilitating interpersonal communication, and is distinct from aggressive and passive behaviors. This seminar helps students develop more assertive behavior and increases their effectiveness in creative decision-making. Topics to be covered include group process, behavior modification techniques, and personality theory, and a systematic approach to decision-making including analysis, priority setting, and making informed choices. Through a group experience intended to foster a climate of mutual growth and support, students have an opportunity to role-play and learn from situations in which they have been typically unassertive and situations in which they have had difficulty making decisions. by the end of the seminar, students will be better able to define and assert their rights in work, social, and familial situations; and will be able to describe a more systematic approach to decision-making.
