Catalog description

This course explores Korean history from the last days of the Joseon dynasty through the colonial period (1910-1945) to the national division into North and South Korea after the Korean War (1950-53). The class will use multi-disciplinary materials including textbooks, films, songs, paintings, and literary works to draw an outline of Korean history, covering political, social, economic, and intellectual developments. By doing this, the class aims to get familiarized with such topics as nationalism, colonialism, ideology, modernization, and human rights. Prerequisite: ENGL112 or ENGL192. 3 sem. hrs. 3 crs.
