This course provides a comprehensive exploration of the modern mixed-market U.S. economy, with a focus on national income, employment, inflation, output, price levels, trade, and long-term economic growth. Students will engage with core macroeconomic models to analyze short-term business cycle fluctuations and long-run growth dynamics, with special attention given to current events, fiscal and monetary policies, and global economic interactions. The course emphasizes the role of U.S. institutions, including the Federal Reserve, the Treasury Department, and key macroeconomic policy tools, in managing economic stability. Students will critically examine the effectiveness of policy interventions in both closed and open economy models and assess how domestic and international factors influence the macroeconomic environment. Real-world case studies, especially from the U.S. economy, are integrated throughout the course to connect theory with practice. In the final part of the course, students will conduct a comparative macroeconomic analysis of two countries, applying models, indicators, and real-world data to evaluate differences in economic structure, growth, and policy effectiveness.
