This course focuses on advanced techniques and issues in a mental health agency setting. Students will receive clinical experience through immersion in a professional counseling role. The student will actively participate in counseling situations under professional supervision in a mental health agency setting. Case presentations and discussion will help to refine the student's abilities and awareness of ethical and professional issues. The student will become familiar with the environmental and sociological aspects of a community setting. In addition to groups and individual counseling sessions, students participate in weekly seminars at the college. On-site experiences will be discussed during the weekly class seminar which focuses on students concerns and advanced issues of ethics, theory and practice. This course is a continuation of CNSL 686; students are expected to continue in their placements from the previous semester. Clinical placements must be approved by the Director of Clinical Placements. A minimum of 300 field hours are required, including 120 direct hours and 180 indirect hours. There will be two academic site visits from the professor of record. This course is designed to meet the second half of the state internship requirements for a licensed mental health counselor. In addition to internship hours students must participate in the weekly seminar course at the college.
