Catalog description

In this hands-on laboratory course, students will investigate oxidative neuronal cell death (a hallmark of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer Disease). In small groups, students will generate primary neural cells from chick embryos to determine how astrocytes (a glial subtype) protect neurons from oxidative stress. Students will engage in the scientific method by evaluating scientific literature, designing and performing experiments, analyzing data, and presenting their findings to the scientific community.
