Pathways, Perspectives and Ethics in Science

Catalog description

Students will analyze the intersection between science and society through the lens of diverse science professions as well as through case studies in ethics and integrity. Class discussions, reflective reading and writing assignments and student-driven projects will center on the value of scientific literacy and inquiry and the importance of evidence-based practices in making informed decisions that impact society. Guest speakers from diverse professions such as scientific research, environmental biology, journalism, education, science policy, clinical laboratory science, veterinary technology, patent law, financial consulting, medical professions, and epidemiology will discuss their perspective paths and the integral role of scientific inquiry in their professions. Through the speaker series, students will also examine personal values in relation to scientific pathways.
