Effective Fall 2026, COMM-C1004 replaces COMM-15</b></font><br> This course covers theory, research, and application of ethical one-to-one communication practices in various and diverse interpersonal relationships including in personal, professional, and social situations. Additionally, this course examines the theories, research, and application of one-to-one communication in diverse interpersonal contexts, including personal, professional, and social relationships. Students will study how communication creates, develops, and sustains identity, relationships, and social meaning. Topics include perception, self-concept, culture, language, nonverbal behavior, listening, emotion, ethics, conflict, and power. Emphasis is placed on understanding interpersonal communication from a social and behavioral sciences perspective, using theory and research methods to analyze how communication behaviors are shaped by cultural, historical, and social contexts.
