Presents specific materials, teaching techniques, and learning experiences for teaching vocal and instrumental music ensembles at the middle school level. Includes a survey of literature appropriate for school bands and choirs. Involves discussion of physical, psychological, and social changes in the teen and pre-teen student including the changing voice and rehearsal methods designed to promote musical growth. Research on recruitment and retention issues at this level are also presented.
