Catalog description

This course examines early literacy development through evidence-based instructional practices. Candidates will learn to assess and teach foundational reading skills, including oral language, print awareness, letter knowledge, phonological and phonemic awareness, phonics, decoding, and word recognition. Instructional planning emphasizes the use of assessment data to deliver differentiated, explicit, and systematic instruction within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), addressing the needs of all learners, including English learners and students with reading difficulties. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program.
