Catalog description
This course examines ideas and practices within secondary education. It includes a focus on designing and teaching developmentally appropriate content pedagogies in the secondary setting, including content area reading instruction. An emphasis is placed on the developmental characteristics of adolescents, as well as the nature and needs of adolescents. The course compliments the content methods and instructional planning courses to broaden preservice teachers thinking about meeting the needs of secondary students specifically. It guides students in their understanding of how to plan, teach, and assess learning in grade 9-12.
