Catalog description
This course examines content area reading development through evidence-based instructional practices. Candidates will learn to assess and teach reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies that help students navigate complex literary and informational texts and support content learning across subject areas. The course also addresses methods for building students' background knowledge to enhance comprehension and engagement with content. Instructional planning emphasizes using assessment data to provide differentiated, explicit, and systematic instruction within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), addressing the needs of all learners, including English learners and students with reading difficulties. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program
