Catalog description
Commercial Heating and Air Conditioning advances student knowledge concerning the principles, practices, use, and service of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment. Students will study the function and operational characteristics of commercial heating and air conditioning equipment. This course reinforces the use of diagnostic test equipment, troubleshooting, humidity control, and the use of manifold gauge sets. Training also reinforces the use of wiring diagrams and schematics, vacuum pumps, leak detectors, recovery machines, and brazing and soldering equipment. This course emphasizes load calculations, ventilation requirements, ducting and piping techniques, the proper use of refrigerants, controls, safeties, relays, and contactors. Students will develop a basic understanding of commercial split-systems, heat pumps, direct digital controls, and low-pressure chillers. This course provides fundamentals for HVAC technicians to build upon as they pursue their HVAC educational and career goals. (1.2-Articulated) Note: This course requires basic reading, basic writing, and basic math.
