Catalog description

Paramedic Module II is the segue into advanced life support interventions for prehospital emergency care. This course requires extensive math and critical thinking skillsets. Students will be challenged with complex patient presentations requiring critical application of advanced airway and cardiopulmonary interventions. This is the second of a five-course series required for students to complete the Paramedic Certificate program. Students are evaluated in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains in compliance with standards established by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Clinical experience is required for all EMS 200 level courses. Specific clinical requirements, including minimum hour and patient contact requirements, are outlined in the EMS Department Policy Manual. NOTE: Enrollment in this course is only open to students accepted into the current Paramedic cohort. Certain clinical and laboratory objectives require heavy lifting and patient movement in excess of 100 lbs., and may expose students to communicable diseases, aggressive patients, and other occupational hazards. Students are required to use/demonstrate college-level reading and writing. This course uses complex mathematical formulas to compute and convert units of measurement. Paramedic students are required to wear uniforms for all clinical work; specifications are listed in the EMS Department Policy Manual.
