Social Work Research

Catalog description

This course introduces students to research methods for the purpose of inspiring an appreciation and application of the concepts to social work practice. Students learn to conceptualize research problems, review relevant literature, and critique existing research. Students design a theoretical study on a topic of their choosing. The study proposal teaches students about research design, creating hypotheses, conceptualization and operationalizing variables, sampling, data collection and analysis, limitations in research and how to use findings to inform future research and practice. Students gain an understanding of cultural competence, ethical considerations, and social work values relating research.
