Advanced Strategies in Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education

Catalog description

This course focuses on specific methods used across disciplines in Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education to meet the developmental and learning needs of children with a variety of special needs. Emphasis is placed on identifying specific developmental and learning characteristics and interventions associated with various severe disabilities, including autism, developmental delay, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, visual impairment, hearing loss, deaf blindness, motor disabilities, and related needs, such as severe behavioral challenges. Candidates will gain knowledge and skills in advanced collaborative methods in instruction, adaptations, and individualized intervention leveraging assistive technologies in addressing IFSP/IEP goals. Candidates will spend up to 25 hours engaging with young children from birth through K with extensive support needs and their families and completing field based assignments.
