Curriculum and Intervention in Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education

This course introduces candidates to a range of curricula used in early childhood settings including home visiting and center based programs. Candidates will develop an educational program plan based on a naturalistic approach that includes elements of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accommodations and the embedding of child goals into routines, planned and child initiated activities. The course addresses collaborative teaming to implement instruction and intervention with families, caregivers, paraprofessionals and professionals to support a young child’s success across environments such as the home, child care, public and community based preschool and more restrictive special education settings. Candidates will spend up to 25 hours engaging with young children from birth through K with disabilities and their families and completing field based assignments.
