Catalog description

75 GPA or equivalent. This course is designed for credential candidates. The course focuses on building an understanding of the teaching profession and provides candidates with an opportunity to examine their assumptions about teaching and learning. Candidates will explore philosophical, psychological, socio-cultural, legal and historical foundations of education in the United States and factors that influence the educational system. A major emphasis of the class will be an examination of classroom management theories and strategies for developing inclusive, safe and culturally responsive learning environments as well as techniques for establishing and maintaining communication with families. A minimum of 5 hours of fieldwork is required for this course.
