Catalog description
This course prepares bilingual teacher candidates to design and implement culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices in Spanish that embrace the diversity and assets of bilingual learners. Candidates will explore strategies for creating inclusive and equitable learning environments that foster bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural student success. Candidates will develop skills to address historical biases, institutional racism, and stereotypes to promote culturally affirming interactions with students, families, and communities. The course also examines contemporary issues and policies in bilingual education and provides candidates a chance to engage in advocacy related to bilingual education. Ten hours of field experience are embedded into the course content and assignments.
