Latinx Migration and Transnational Connections

Catalog description

Despite increasingly restrictive immigration laws in this country, migrants from across Latin America have changed the face of the United States over recent decades. What factors drive these migrants to leave their home countries and seek refuge and opportunity in the US? What are consequences of large-scale migration flows for both the United States and migrants' countries of origin? This course explores these questions through a review of sociological research on various aspects of Latinx migration and its impacts. Prerequisite: SOC 121, SOC 131, SOC 141, SOC 151, or SOC 251. Liberal Arts Core Designation: Social Science (SS), Depth in Sciences (DSCI).
