Gender, Race, and Empire

Catalog description

This course explores the impact of empire and empire building on culture, with an emphasis on attitudes concerning the "other" in society — women, the working class, and people of color. Students will also explore the ways in which attitudes toward gender roles and race shape the discourses of empire. This course may be taught from a number of humanities disciplines.
