Black American Literature

Catalog description

A study of Black American literature examining selected movements from the late 18th century to the present. Topics may include oral and written storytelling within the enslaved narrative, transatlantic and hemispheric connections, study of particular periods like the Harlem Renaissance, or the Black Arts movement, or explorations of particular genres such as poetry, drama, or speculative fiction. Discussions will address the cultural, social, and political environments that shape the work produced by the Black community in and around the United States. Prerequisite: EN 102 or permission of instructor. Liberal Arts Core Designation: Literature (LT), Depth in Humanities (DHUM)
