Catalog description

This doctoral course researches the important interactions between government and business and the impact on intelligent decision-making on government operations. Government (federal, state and local) significantly affect the economy and society through a myriad of political processes including laws, regulations, policies, international relations, and funding. The way government works, including the technology it uses, can determine whether it meets the needs of business and its constituents. Conversely, the way the government interacts with business can affect its ability to effectively meet the demands of its constituents within its budget constraints and adhering to policies such as free and open competition. The interplay of business and government in society changes over time and differs from location to location with a current emphasis on agility in the marketplace. This course examines the way the governments work, current attempts at its modernization, and the role of government contracting. Students research digital government initiatives and how they relate to similar processes in business and what can be learnt from and by each. Emphasis is placed on how businesses and governments can interact as partners for the benefit of all participants. Students must achieve a minimum grade of B-.
