Catalog description

This course is part of the chemistry sequence for biology majors. A continuation of CHM 221, this course covers the chemistry of carbonyl-containing compounds, aromatics, polyenes, amines, and carbohydrates. Also covered are UV-visible and mass spectroscopy. An emphasis is placed on organic synthesis and mechanisms. The laboratory applies techniques learned in CHM 221 to synthesize a variety of organic compounds. Prerequisite: CHM 221.
