Kenrick, Orestes Brownson, Isaac Hecker, John Ireland, John A. Ryan, Gustave Weigel) within the context of American and European theological developments. Examination of American Catholic perceptions of Christology, grace, ecclesiology, church-state relations, social thought, the Bible, and modern sciences with a focus upon the relationship of religion and republicanism.
