Catalog description

Examines the institutional structures, political dynamics, and contested values that shape educational policy and practice in the United States. Analyzes how competing stakeholder groups negotiate tensions between democratic ideals and market pressures, local control and federal oversight, equity and excellence. Draws upon perspectives from political science, sociology, public policy, and education research to understand schooling as simultaneously a public good, private investment, and contested political terrain.
