Investigates 17th- to 18th-century philosophy, especially in light of individualism and scientific discovery. Philosophers studied may include, but are not limited to: Descartes, Leibniz, Spinoza, Locke, Berkeley, Hume and Kant. Typical themes discussed include theories of mind and matter; personal identity; God and the cosmos; and the relations between philosophy, science and religion.
