Catalog description

An overview of the business and legal concerns affecting athlete agents in the sports industry. Reviews the history and role of athlete agents in sports. Explores the many ways that agents are regulated under state agency laws, including versions of the Uniform Athlete Agents Act and Name, Image and Likeness Acts, the federal Sports Agents Responsibility and Trust Act, and various sports league and union regulations. Examines drafting and interpretation of agent and player contracts; the role of an athlete agent related to endorsements and marketing; and special issues related to NIL and athlete agents. Studies building and sustaining an agency practice; legal and ethical challenges for lawyers acting as athlete agents; representation of athletes in entertainment and overlap with talent agents; and disputes involving agents related to fees charged, inadequate representation, poaching, and operating without a license.
