Seminar: Law and Climate Change in the Great Lakes Region

Catalog description
Concerns issues of law and policy related to climate change in the Great Lakes region of the United States. Begins with an overview of the expected impacts from climate change in the region. Briefly examines the negotiation and implementation of international mechanisms including the Great Lakes Compact as well as the impacts of federal climate law and policy making before moving on to regional, state and municipal efforts. Looks closely at examples of climate law and policy in state and local governments within the Great Lakes region as we evaluate the various legal tools being used to address climate change. Implications for energy security, economic competitiveness, federalism, environmental justice, and international and intergenerational equity are discussed. Adaptation to climate change, climate migration and geoengineering are examined, as well.
