Catalog description

Introduces the nature of disabilities, historical context, identification processes and legal issues associated with providing ethical, equitable and appropriate education for students with disabilities. Addresses the complexities of inclusion, diversity, federal and state legislative mandates pertinent to nondiscriminatory assessments, parental involvement, individualized education programs; and the roles of special education and regular education teachers and multidisciplinary teams in providing special education services to children and youth with disabilities. Requires 20 hours of school-based observation and participation in special education classrooms serving students in grades K-9.
