An introduction to the use of advanced quantitative research methods used in criminological research as they relate to analysis of crime data, trends, and causes. Designed to provide students with a working knowledge of advanced quantitative methods to analyze data from the criminal legal system and develop a research proposal. Gives instruction on the basic logic of scientific inference, with a focus on conceptualization, the development of hypotheses, measurement and operationalization of data and variables, case selection, and interpretation of results. Examines foundational concepts in advanced and multivariate statistical methods to properly use analytical tools. Incorporates diverse learning activities including lectures, PowerPoint presentations, instructor-led skills training and student practice sessions.
