Catalog description

Introduces core theoretical and empirical approaches to the study of the law as a social process and cultural practice. Promotes a foundational understanding of the concept of law, where it can be found, and why it matters, including spaces outside of formal legal institutions. Topics covered may include the differences between law on the books and law in action, legal mobilization, law and social inequality and how the law both shapes and constrains social change.
