Catalog description

Fire Support Essentials (3 Credit Hours – Area V) This course introduces the student to the incident command system, its organizational structure, history, principles, and features and the National Incident Management System (NIMS ) as a template for integration of public and private entities working together on emergency incidents. The Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) training certificate, developed through the Federal Highway Administration, the Responder Safety Learning Network (RSLN), contains ten specific RSLN online self-paced programs. The course will also introduce students to the concepts and principles of the National Response Framework and the National Response Plan. Peer support behavioral health awareness online course will educate students regarding critical incident stress management and peer support, signs and symptoms of behavioral and emotional distress, the benefits of psychological support and education, understanding mental health diagnosis and treatment, and suicide awareness. Students will be given the opportunity to take online exams of certification. This course completed national standard essential requirements for NIMS 100, 200, 700, 800, TIMS, and Peer Support. As required by program.
