Math for Elem Teachers III

Catalog description
This course is the third in a three-semester sequence designed to strengthen, broaden, and enrich the students' background in the content areas associated with elementary school mathematics. Topics covered include introductory statistics, the essentials of probability, introductory logic, mathematical proof, the nature of mathematics, mathematical practices and habits of mind, and the use of technology in mathematics teaching and learning. Wherever possible, manipulatives and hands-on experiences are utilized to demonstrate content. This course requires a co-requisite lab focusing on math pedagogy, which allows for additional work with manipulatives, student application of learned concepts, and a practicum experience in an elementary school.
