Catalog description
This course provides aspiring teachers with a comprehensive foundation in adolescent literacy and disciplinary literacy practices across content areas. Emphasizing evidence-based instructional strategies and scientifically grounded reading research, the course prepares aspiring secondary educators to integrate literacy instruction into their content-specific teaching. Candidates will learn to assess the literacy needs of adolescent students, interpret diagnostic and formative assessment data, and use this information to plan, adjust, and deliver effective instruction that promotes reading comprehension, critical thinking, and content mastery.
