Principles of Bioinformatics

Catalog description

This course presents the essential components of bioinformatics as a scientific discipline for the organization and analysis of large amounts of biological data, from locating sources of data to project management to visualizing analyses. Students will focus on developing basic skills for working with large data sets and explore modern techniques applicable to careers in basic research, data science, and medicine. The course emphasizes hands on practice with real genetic, -omic, and other data and is designed for students without any prior experience with programming or computational science. Three lecture hours and three lab hours per week.
